Camping Trip Kanopolis Lake

We decided kinda at the last minute to go camping last week
We drove to Kanopolis Lake
We pretty much had the campground to ourselves
BUT we also found that most of the campsites were reserved for the weekend so we came home on Friday
We had great weather...evenings were nice and cool....but during nite it was almost too cool....I only took one blanket and could have used 2.

MORE TEARS FOR GREAT GRANDMA

Ally the youngest of the great grandkids started "kid in the garden" this year.
She's been wanting to go to school for years and would even cry when the boys would go.
Guess she was up early and ready UNTIL she actually got there.
She says she is fine now....she isn't nervous anymore! ! !
I hope the world is ready for her!

Anniversary Drive and Supper

Yesterday we decided to go for a drive
We drove north towards Hutchinson and found a couple of back roads and found a
wildlife area and then on to Hutchinson and drove by my Sister's old house and then to
Yoder to Carriage Inn for supper to kinda celebrate our 49th Anniversary

TODAY is actually our anniversary but we couldn't do it today because we have to have hamburgers tonite
YES on our wedding nite all we could find open in Pittsburg Ks on a Sunday nite was a drive in...
so we've tried to have hamburgers every year
I'm cooking them tonite

Today was the boys first day at school. Ally starts Kindergarten next week.

Neighbors Bird

Our neighbor came over this morning and said he had this bird that has been hanging
around his garden and fruit trees for several days.
He just walks around and never seems to want to fly....does not seem to be injured.
SO of course I had to go see and take my camera.
As far as we can tell from our bird books its an immature heron of some kind.

We found a road just south of Gunnison that was straight up....wish I had thot to video going up but at least I did think of it going down.

The video really doesn't show the depth but I think you will get the idea.

This video is on a 4wheel drive road...not as steep but more rocks.

July Trip to Colorado

We decided it would be cooler in Colorado so took off last Monday.
It was cooler but oh my gosh it was busier too

We usually go in spring or fall and now we remember why. July is not the time for retired people to go!

We had a good time but was sure hard to get away from the crowds.
We spent 4 nites at Blue Mesa and 3 nites in Taylor Park

The wildflowers were wonderful and according to husband I photographed them all

Went for a drive today

We decided to go for a drive today even in the rain
But by early afternoon it cleared up and was a very nice afternoon
Went to Kingman and Kingman Lake and the Ninnescah River

July 4 Celebration

We went to Randy and Nova's about 9:00 PM to watch the city fireworks
After having some delicious homemade apple pie and some ice cream we went outside to watch the fireworks
Some of the individuals rivaled the city fireworks....It was a nice display

New Butterfly Comforter

I ordered this butterfly comforter
for the twin bed in my sewing room
over a month ago and of course it was on backorder
Finally got it Friday
It is reversible....I think I like the smaller butterflies the best
It came with butterfly sheets too!

When the kids were here we went to the park for a picnic
there is a pond with ducks and geese

Boy did we pick a doozy of a day to have a picnic....almost 100 degrees
We had a good time in spite of the heat
We had sandwiches, chips and animal crackers, orange pop and root beer

TODAY FATHERS DAY

This morning we went to Randy and Nova's and Tara fixed breakfast
ham and egg casserole and a brunch cake....it was all VERY GOOD
and then we all went outside for a "family picture"
later the "boys" went for a bike ride
Besides being Fathers Day it was a Great FAMILY Day

ICE CREAM SOCIAL with the Kids

BOY SOME PEOPLE really know how to build Ice Cream Sundae's
I won't tell you who's ice cream bowls these are but it was sure good

Wichita Mayors Family Bike Day

We all loaded up kids and bikes and went to the Wichita Mayors Family Bike Day at Sims Park
Everyone got a Tshirt and the kids some color books and tatoos' from the Wichita Police Dept.
Ethan got to ride on the bike ride
There were different obstacle courses for everyone to try
Ally won a bike and Blake won a helmet and bike lock and other goodies
We had 4 generations riding in the ride
Picture is missing the "oldest" member!
It was a fun day!

Great Grandkids at our house

Our Great Grandkids finally at our house today. We had fun sewing and crafting.

Ally had paper dolls and the boys finished their embroidery projects they started before they left Kansas.
Then after supper the boys rode over with Randy on their bikes. Blake learned to ride his bike the first nite they were here.

KIDS FINALLY ARRIVED

Tara and the kids finally arrived but not without incident! Nova and us were almost to airport when we got a call that they hadn't left Denver yet. Some kind of plane problems. So we went to the mall and shopped and tried to keep busy til we heard back from them. After several phone calls and delays they finally arrived in Wichita at 3:04. Got them to Randy and Nova's about 4:00. Took some quick pics and left. THEY were all tired especially Tara. They left Anchorage at midnite so they had a very long day. Here's a couple of pictures. They will be here til end of June so lots more pics to come.

Today Dorothy came over so we could sew on the quilt tops for her boss's twin grandsons' due in July.
We sewed until almost lunch time then we went to meet the Chicks. I can't believe that everyone could make on such short notice and in the middle of the week. Couldn't have turned out any better.
We met at Gobi Grille. The food was really good too.
Karen had her phone so our waiter took our picture.
Here's our picture and also the quilt tops ...we did manage to get both tops done today.

Camping in Oklahoma May 21-24

We finally managed to get in a few days of camping in between therapy appts and rain
We stayed 2 nites at Ft. Supply then 1 nite at the Salt Plains
BOTH places were windy but if not for the wind it would have been too hot
Guess we can't have everything
We had a nice time and walked a couple of nature trails
(So far I have had 2 ticks and I think chiggers are coming on too
Husband has NONE)
**Guess that's what I get for being so sweet**
Saw lots of flowers and animals and you all know me
I can't pass up a flower without taking a picture of it

Yesterday Jan came over and we made "A POTHOLDER"
YUP took us all afternoon to make one.
She used scraps from her quilt to make her potholder
beautiful greens and purples...much to pretty to use

Then this morning I decided to do some on my own
I got 3 tops done
I'm on a roll now

I woke early this morning still dark and stepped out on porch to check weather and found
this wonderful little May Day Basket hung on my door.
It has 2 pieces of candy and 2 little flowers.
I'm sure its from our neighbor girl who is about 4 or 5 years old

Camping Trip to Missouri

We took our "NEWEST GOONY" to Missouri for a few days.
Had a great time...weather was "iffy" a couple of days but then perfect a couple of days.
We also drove thru a wind/rain storm coming home right on the Kansas/Missouri line.

We went to Minnesota yesterday and picked up our newest "GOONY"
We left home at 4:00 AM picked up camper and got home at midnite.
We drove almost 1100 miles and was on the road 20 hours.
Think that set a new driving record for us.
Its a 1985 Scamp and it was bought new by this couple and really wasn't used very much
Anxious to "GO SOMEWHERE" now.

Day Drive to Oklahoma

We took a day drive down to Oklahoma and the Salt Plains
Was pretty chilly when we started out but warmed up nice in afternoon but then the wind started again.
Took a few pictures but not very many.
I think the wind was keeping the animals and even the birds grounded.
We saw an young eagle, a little sandpiper on the salt flats and lots of turtles sunning.
The redbud trees were just popping out

Early this morning we had an owl fly in our backyard
We had the Kids over for coffee and rolls
Then we decided to take a drive
it was so windy we didn't even get out of car
We saw some turtles sunning on the river bank
saw a few wildflowers and a pretty dandelion
and then on our drive home we found this wonderful old house

Ethel Robin is Back

I believe Ethel is back again this year
AND I bet Fred is somewhere closeby
She's in the same tree the same branch
Last year the nest got blown away before she could finish
and she built further in the backyard.
Hope she can stay here this year
I can watch her from my backdoor and kitchen window
